Arteco now uses recycled material in black IBCs
Arteco is taking another step towards using resources more responsibly by extending the use of SCHÜTZ GREEN LAYER technology to its black Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs).*
This increases the use of recycled material while maintaining the required packaging performance, quality and safety. Black IBCs are designed to protect their filling products from UV radiation and light exposure.
30% recycled High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) in the middle layer
SCHÜTZ GREEN LAYER IBCs feature a three-layer inner bottle. The middle layer consists of 30% high-quality recycled HDPE, while the inner and outer layers continue to be made from virgin HDPE.
This technology ensures that both the filling product and the external environment are in direct contact exclusively with virgin material.
The recycled HDPE comes from controlled recycling loops supported by SCHÜTZ’s unique global network and services such as the SCHÜTZ TICKET SERVICE. In these processes, IBC inner bottles, PE drums and jerrycans are reprocessed and returned to the material cycle as high-quality recycled HDPE. Other plastic components of the IBC, such as corner guards and plastic skid pallets, already incorporate recycled materials.

Validated for performance and usability
GREEN LAYER IBCs offer the same performance as the corresponding packaging made from 100% virgin HDPE, without compromising quality or safety.
Arteco also carried out in-house testing to validate the packaging for its own use. The results confirmed that:
- the same standard specification as the corresponding SCHÜTZ packaging made from 100% virgin HDPE is respected;
- the packaging remains suitable for its intended use;
- GREEN LAYER IBCs reduce the amount of virgin HDPE required.
By using black IBCs with GREEN LAYER technology, Arteco continues to look for practical opportunities to use resources more responsibly.
