Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs)

Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) are powered entirely by electric energy stored in high-voltage battery packs. These batteries, along with other critical components such as the electric motor, power electronics and onboard charger, generate heat during operation and charging.

From a thermal management perspective, BEVs present significant complexity compared to conventional vehicles. Many BEVs use two or more separate cooling circuits, for example, one for the battery, one for the power electronics and another for the cabin.

These loops may operate at different temperature ranges and require precise control. Some advanced systems integrate these into a thermal domain controller to optimize energy usage. This is why selecting the right coolant is essential to ensure optimal thermal management across the entire system.

Discover our ICE coolants

Many of our products originally developed for internal combustion engines (ICE) are already being successfully used in battery electric vehicles (BEVs). Products like Freecor® FTC, Freecor® BMC and Freecor® LPC help manage thermal loads efficiently while offering proven corrosion protection across a wide temperature range and system materials. This ensures strong passivation in both low-temperature battery cooling circuits and higher-temperature systems.

These coolants not only offer excellent thermal stability at high temperatures, but also provide effective corrosion protection across a wide temperature range. This ensures strong passivation in both low-temperature battery cooling circuits and higher-temperature systems.

Discover Freecor® EV Milli 10

At the same time, the growing adoption of high-voltage systems and increasingly stringent safety requirementsespecially in advanced EV markets like Chinahave introduced new demands for thermal fluids. In these environments, low electrical conductivity is essential to ensuring system safety and long-term reliability.

To meet these evolving expectations, FREECOR® EV Milli 10 was developed as a premium coolant specifically designed for applications where electrical insulation and operational safety are key. Its low conductivity helps minimise current flow under voltage, limits fluid decomposition and hydrogen formation and aligns with the specific international safety standards set by leading EV markets.

FREECOR® EV Milli 10 has a 4-fold action

High heat transfer protects for overheating

Frost and boiling protection

Low and stable electrical conductivity over time

Corrosion protection

Selecting the right coolant is mainly defined by the application. This involves a thorough understanding of the temperature range, heat load, material compatibility, and electrical conductivity (particularly important for data centers and EV-vehicles).

Additionally environmental, toxicity and sustainability criteria are becoming increasingly important when choosing coolants, base fluids and inhibitor technology for a future-proof choice.

Our expertise can guide you towards the optimal choice for your specific needs.
